California Dental Association Foundation Student Loan Repayment Program
  • Awardee may receive up to 35,000 for three years if loans amount to $105,000 or more. If less than $105,000 recipients will receive up to the total of their qualified educational loan amount.
  • Commits to practicing in an underserved community for a minimum of three years.
Recent dental school graduates (graduated within last three years, or to graduate in the next six months). Apply here

Health Professions Education Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP)
  • Awardee may receive up to $20,000.
  • Commits to practicing in direct patient care in a Medically Underserved Area (MUA) in California for two years.
Applicants who have graduated and are practicing Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives and Physician Assistants. Apply here

Licensed Vocational Nurse Loan Repayment Program (LVNLRP)
  • Awardee may receive up to $6,000 in to repay educational loan over a two-year period.
  • Commits to practice direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) of California for two years.

Licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMHSPEP)/ Mental Health Loan Assumption Program (MHLAP)
  • Awardee may receive up to $15,000 to repay educational loans over a two-year period.
  • Commits to practicing and providing direct care in a publicly funded or public mental health facility, a non-profit mental health facility, or in a mental health professions shortage area.
Registered or Licensed Psychologists, Registered or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Registered or Licensed Clinical Social Workers in California. Apply here

Steven M. Thompson Physician Corps Loan Repayment Program (STLRP)
  • Awardee may receive up to $105,000.
  • Commits to practicing in direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) in California for three years.
Licensed physician graduates who are practicing direct patient care within the state of California. Apply here

National Health Service Corps (NHSC)/State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)
  • Awardee may receive up to $50,000 for two year commitment; for an additional 3rd and/or 4th year commitment, up to $35,000 per year.
  • Commits to practice in medically underserved areas in public or non-profit entities for a minimum of two years and maximum of four years.
Physicians (MD and DO) practicing in general internal medicine, family practice, general pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN); physician assistants; nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives; general practice dentists (DDS or DMD), dental hygienist; psychiatrists; clinical or counseling psychologists; clinical social workers; marriage and family therapists; mental health counselors; psychiatric nurse specialists; and licensed professional counselors.

Working at (or in the final stages of employment negotiations with) an NHSC-eligible facility.

State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education for Nursing Faculty (SNAPLE NF)
  • Awardee may receive $25,000 over the course of three full-time academic years.
  • Commits to teach nursing studies at a regionally accredited college or university in California for three full-time academic years or the equivalent.
Student enrolled in or admitted to a program, in which they will be enrolled at least half-time each academic term, and be nominated for participation in the program by their institution. Apply here

Indian Health Services (IHS) Loan Repayment Program
  • Awardee will receive up to $20,000 per year, and an additional 20 percent annually paid to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to offset the increased tax liability incurred by awardee.
  • Commits to practice at an IHS or other Indian health program priority site, in a full-time clinical practice for two continuous years
All health professions are eligible to apply to the LRP. However, physicians and nurses have historically received the highest priority for selection into the program. Apply here
Application Deadline:
Monthly from January through September 30 each award year. The application deadline is the Friday of the second full week of each month.
Health Resources & Services Agency (HRSA) Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program
  • Awardee receives 60 percent of the qualifying loan balance
  • Commits to service at a critical shortage facility for two years. Participants may be eligible to work a third year and receive an additional 25 percent of the qualifying loan balance.
A baccalaureate or associate degree in nursing (or an equivalent degree), a diploma in nursing or a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Apply here
